🇺🇸 Rotated USWNT erase deficit in comeback friendly win over Iceland

On a day when Emma Hayes heavily rotated the USWNT lineup, the Stars and Stripes came from behind to win a second consecutive friendly against Iceland.

Scorers: Williams 72′, Horan 76′, Sears 90+3′ ; Vilhjálmsdóttir 31′

After beating Iceland in Austin just three days ago, the U.S. returned to action in Nashville, but it wasn’t without major changes. U.S. manager Emma Hayes made seven changes to the side, most notably giving Emily Sams the start on her debut for the national team.

But the action on the pitch wasn’t as fortunate for the home side, as they went behind on the half-hour mark when an indirect free-kick from Karólína Lea Vilhjálmsdóttir somehow found its way through a crowded box and into the back of the net.

After the break the U.S. made a handful of changes to bring in some of the bigger stars, and the changes took. The leveler came in the final 20 minutes when Lynn Williams pounced on a ball in the box before firing home, but the U.S. found the winner only four minutes later through a Lindsey Horan tap-in.

The hosts weren’t done there however, as Emma Sears came off the bench to score a debut goal to remember, picking out the corner of the net from inside the box.

With the two wins over Iceland under their belt, the USWNT will now turn their attention to a mid-week showdown with Argentina in Louisville.
