🚨 Inter Miami break all-time MLS points record

Inter Miami have set a new MLS record by accumulating 74 points in the regular season after a 6-2 win over the New England Revolution on Saturday evening.

A clutch brace from Luis Suárez was followed by a Lionel Messi hat trick as well as a strike from Benjamin Cremaschi that saw the Herons complete a comeback win over a struggling New England side, who previously held the record when they finished with 73 points in the 2021 campaign.

Tata Martino’s side failed to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs last season, but lead by Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, who finished the campaign with a staggering 40 goals and 25 assists between them, Miami have shown that star-power rules supreme in MLS after picking up 22 wins in the 34-game season.

It wasn’t always smooth sailing for the south Florida side, however. Miami dropped points in five straight games in March and April, forcing some to think the top-heavy squad had too many flaws to go on a major run.

But the critics were silenced between mid-April and September, when Martino’s men won 16 of 20 games to race out in front of their rivals around them.

Having already wrapped up the Supporters Shield earlier in the campaign, Miami can now head into the playoffs having achieved history to ensure they are spoken about as one of the great MLS sides of all-time.

But the work doesn’t stop there for the star-studded Herons, as they will have to quickly turn their attention to the MLS Cup Playoffs in the coming weeks.

It’s safe to say the big stars have left their mark on not only Inter Miami, but MLS.
