Barcelonaโs impressive LaLiga run continued on Wednesday after a 1-0 win over Getafe made it seven wins from seven.
Scorer: Lewandowski 19โฒ
The Blaugrana are not shy of confidence in the 2024/25 season as new manager Hansi Flick has his side fit and firing despite many injuries.
It was a makeshift lineup against formidable Getafe with Eric Garcia, Pablo Torre and Marc Casadรณ leading midfield but that was not to worry the hosts. Barcelona dominated the pitch with 80% possession of the ball as the visitors were left chasing it.
Robert Lewandowski proved age is just a number when the 36-year-old expertly volleyed home the openerย after goalkeeper David Soria fumbled Jules Koundeโs cross. It is now seven goals in as many LaLiga games for the Polish striker.
Nothing truly tested Getafe as the match entered the second half with Lamine Yamal, in particular, looking to get his name on the scoresheet. However, the young Spaniard called Soria into a diving finger-tip save.
With the match not put to bed, it welcomed a plethora of challenges between the two sides. Impressively, it took 12 fouls and 70 minutes for the first yellow card to arrive as the game turned choppy.
Given Getafe failed to register any shots on target and often had seven to eight players in their own box, Soria was the man who ensured they remained in the game.
Raphinhaโs free-kick called the goalkeeper to make a diving save to his right before Yamalโs follow-up attempt on the half-volley hit off the crossbar and Raphinha missed an open goal.
The final minutes featured a few waves of attack for Getafe, but it was too little too late for the club without a win and 19th in the table.
