The 2024 NFL season officially kicks off in Kansas City on Thursday night, when Patrick Mahomes and the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs host reigning MVP Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
Not bad for a first course.
All teams have a clean slate and they all have hopes of holding up the Lombardi Trophy in New Orleans. But who will actually be crowned Super Bowl champs, and who will take home MVP honors?

Who will win the Super Bowl?
Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid make history with the three-peat. This feel like the cop-out answer, but until someone shows they can beat them, why pick against them? I don’t believe the Chiefs have the best roster in the NFL. I do believe they have the best player to walk the planet. Mahomes gives them a chance every time he’s on the field.

Lions. I love Dan Campbell and the culture they’ve been able to create. Jared Goff has emerged as an elite QB in today’s NFL. The run game that has become the backbone of this team. That pairs well with gritty defense that will get stronger as the season goes on. Watch out for the Lions.

The Chiefs somehow find a way again with a breakout year from wide receiver Rashee Rice and Patrick Mahomes reclaiming the MVP award. Travis Kelce rides off into the media sunset. Despite the loss, Jordan Love cements himself as a top 5-8 quarterback in the NFL for the next decade.

The Bengals. Cincinnati will nab its first ever Super Bowl victory on the back of Joe Burrow, whose 2023 season was cut short after he tore a ligament in his wrist. Cincinnati got close three seasons ago, falling to the Rams In Super Bowl LVI. They’ll get over the hump this time, with Burrow leaning on Ja’Marr Chase (who will sign a massive extension early this season) and Tee Higgins as the Bengals tame the Lions.

The Eagles. When we ran our postseason predictions in 2022, I was one of the few people on staff who took the Eagles to go all the way, and if it wasn’t for a (somewhat fluky) James Bradberry defensive holding penalty against the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII, I may have been right.
I’m taking the Eagles again this time around, because their already-loaded offense added another difference maker in Saquon Barkley, and veteran coach Vic Fangio will bring an edge back to the defense. Eagles-Bengals could be a high-scoring shootout, but I’ll take Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts making the difference.

Lions. The Lions have the easier path to the Super Bowl going through the NFC, and the experience in the postseason last year will help them. Dan Campbell will learn from last year and find a better balance for his aggressive play-calling.
The Ravens will get over the hump, using last year’s loss to the Chiefs as a springboard to the Super Bowl, but Detroit’s speed on defense will stop Lamar Jackson and get the win.
