3 Former Blackhawks Placed on Waivers

Date:

The waiver wire seems to continuously find former Chicago Blackhawks players on it this preseason as three more names get cut from their new teams as of October 4.

The former Blackhawks include Jordan Oesterle (Boston Bruins), Luke Philp (Washington Capitals), and Mike Hardman (New Jersey Devils).

Oesterle hasn’t played for the Blackhawks since 2017-18, but recorded five goals and 15 points in 55 games during that season. The 32-year-old undrafted defenseman is with his sixth NHL team and is also signed to a two-year, $775,000 AAV deal with the Bruins. He should serve as solid organizational depth for the team as he has 371 career games in the NHL.

Philp is on a one-year, league minimum deal with the Capitals after leaving the Blackhawks’ organization that he spent the last two seasons in. The 28-year-old’s only three NHL games came in 2022-23 with Chicago and he recorded one assist. The rest of his time was spent with the Rockford IceHogs. He did very well for the AHL team in 2022-23, scoring 29 goals and 53 points in 60 games, but was only able to play 15 games last season and recorded six points. He did make it far in the Capitals’ training camp though.

Hardman has only ever seen professional action in the Blackhawks’ organization. The 25-year-old came right out of the NCAA in 2020-21 and finished the season with the Blackhawks. He split the following two seasons between the NHL and AHL, but was exclusively with the IceHogs last season. The Devils have him signed at league minimum for two years, but also just completed their first regular season game in Prague which Hardman wasn’t a part of.
