Barcelona manager faces three selection doubts ahead of Real Sociedad encounter

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is grappling with multiple selection dilemmas as Barcelona prepare to face Real Sociedad, capping off an intense period of back-to-back matches that the team has so far handled successfully, securing a series of wins.

Tonight’s game presents a chance for Barça to extend their streak to eight consecutive victories, but Flick must carefully assess his lineup options before making final choices, given several players’ uncertain availability.

One of Flick’s main concerns is with young defender Pau Cubarsi, who sustained a facial injury during the previous match in Belgrade.

Although he participated in training on Saturday while wearing a protective mask, Flick will have to decide whether the player is fit enough to feature in tonight’s game. If Cubarsi is deemed unfit to start, Sergi Dominguez is likely to step in.

Alternatively, Flick could opt to deploy Hector Fort on the right, moving Jules Kounde into a central role, providing a flexible yet strong defensive setup.

Two more worries

The midfield selection also remains in question, particularly due to concerns about Dani Olmo’s condition. Olmo missed Saturday’s training due to a virus, though Flick hinted he could recover in time.

If he is not fully fit, it will open up opportunities for either Fermin Lopez or Frenkie de Jong to join the midfield. Should de Jong be selected, Pedri may be positioned slightly higher up the field, pairing in midfield with Marc Casado, who has been in excellent form.

Flick is also contemplating changes in attack. Lamine Yamal, who has been impressive this season, sat out the last training session due to fatigue and is expected to start from the bench.

Yamal played a full 90 minutes in Belgrade, and Flick has indicated he may opt to give the rising star a well-deserved rest in tonight’s match.

As Flick works to finalise his selection, balancing player recovery and readiness will be crucial. His choices will significantly impact Barcelona’s performance as they look to extend their winning run, hoping to continue their dominance in La Liga.
