Arkansas basketball vs Baylor score today: Live updates, game highlights, how to watch

Date:

DALLAS — Arkansas basketball is set for its first top-25 matchup of the season tonight.

The No. 16 Razorbacks (1-0) will face No. 8 Baylor (0-1) Saturday looking to secure an NCAA Tournament resume-building victory in early November. Arkansas opened its season and the John Calipari era with a 76-60 win over Lipscomb Wednesday.

Baylor, meanwhile, traveled to the Pacific Northwest and got blown out in a 101-63 loss to Gonzaga Monday.

This matchup marks the 146th meeting between the two schools, but the Hogs and Bears have only played four times since 1991, when Arkansas left the Southwest Conference. Baylor has won each of the last two meetings, including a 2021 victory that clinched a spot in the Final Four.

Below are live updates, highlights and other notes from Arkansas basketball’s second game of the season.

Arkansas basketball vs Baylor score updates

This section will be updated when the game begins.

Second Half

  • The Razorbacks missed a couple of open looks from three in the final minutes, and they could never quite get over the hump despite multiple rallies to make the game close. Arkansas never led, and it now has its first loss of the John Calipari era.
  • Calipari calls timeout with the game slipping away. The Hogs haven’t scored in 2:14 and trail by seven, desperately needing to execute their offense down the stretch.

  • Arkansas just isn’t getting enough stops right now to mount a comeback, but Baylor’s star forward Norchad Omier has four fouls after being a difference-maker to start the second half. Omier has 11 points and nine rebounds.
  • The Bears’ offense has come to life since Arkansas tied the game early in the second half. Baylor already has four made 3-pointers since halftime and has opened up an 11-point lead over the Hogs.
  • The Razorbacks have opened the second half on an 11-2 run and tied the game. Adou Thiero with six of his game-high 16 points in this half, and the Razorbacks have already made a pair of threes since the intermission.

First Half

  • Arkansas trimmed the deficit to 33-31, but Baylor closed the half on a 9-2 run to take a nine-point lead into the intermission. Adou Thiero has 10 points, and Boogie Fland has nine to lead Arkansas. Eight turnovers and 10 missed threes held the Hogs’ offense back.
  • The game just added some spice with double technicals called on Richmond and Roach for throwing the basketball at each other after a Baylor timeout. Richmond looked to be talking some trash to Roach after a quick 5-0 run cut the Baylor lead to 33-26.
  • Arkansas finally has a made three, but the Bears are starting to breakdown the Hogs’ defense and get to the paint at will.
  • Calipari is forced to call a timeout after an alley-oop dunk stretches the Baylor lead to 11 points. Arkansas just has no answers for the Bears’ defense, shooting 27.8% and 0 for 9 on threes.
  • Arkansas is settling for way too many threes, and the Hogs are 0 for 7 from downtown. Baylor’s zone defense is giving the Razorbacks fits early on.
  • Both teams are getting some easy looks as the Bears hold an early advantage at the first media timeout. Arkansas has already forced two turnovers and missed a pair of threes.

Pregame

  • The Razorbacks will go with Boogie Fland, DJ Wagner, Johnell Davis, Adou Thiero and Zvonimir Ivišić as their first five against Baylor. It’s the same group of starters from the victory over Lipscomb. It’s a smaller unit compared to Baylor, who is starting Jeremy Roach, VJ Edgecombe, Jayden Nunn, Norchad Omier and Josh Ojianwuna.
  • No surprise, but Jonas Aidoo and all nine of Arkansas’ rotational players are going through stretches and warm ups with tipoff less than an hour away.

Arkansas vs Baylor predictions

Arkansas 74, Baylor 68: Both teams are getting comfortable on the fly with rosters filled by newcomers and potential. Baylor will be motivated to put the Gonzaga loss in the rear-view mirror but, while Omier could have a big night, the Razorbacks’ defense will be the X-factor in a 2-0 start.
