IOWA CITY — Iowa basketball’s Owen Freeman was out for Tuesday’s matchup against South Dakota due to an illness, according to a program spokesperson.

It was a notable blow to the Hawkeyes’ frontcourt. The reigning Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Year is averaging 15 points and 8.5 rebounds through two games this season. Freshman Chris Tadjo, who appeared only sparingly so far, was also unavailable Tuesday.

Iowa did get Manhattan transfer Seydou Traore back, who missed the season’s first two games due to injury.

As a result of Freeman’s absence, Iowa went with a smaller starting lineup. Sophomore Pryce Sandfort made his first career start at Iowa. Sandfort had a career-high 22 points against Southern last Thursday.

Pryce Sandfort got the start on Tuesday alongside his brother Payton, plus Brock Harding, Josh Dix and Ladji Dembele.
