Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is back playing competitive cricket, joining Bengal’s Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. However, he couldn’t make a significant impact on the first day.
Shami’s team was sent in to bat first by Madhya Pradesh, and Bengal were bowled out for 228, powered by Shahbaz Ahmed’s 92 off 80 balls. When Shami had his turn at the crease, he faced an over and was dismissed for two runs.
When it was time to bowl, Shami delivered the most overs for his team but failed to make a breakthrough in his ten overs. He bowled ten overs, conceding 34 runs with one maiden.

Shami experienced an ankle injury during the final match of the 2023 ODI World Cup, necessitating surgery and a lengthy absence from the sport.
The injury required the 33-year-old fast bowler to undergo a comprehensive rehabilitation program.
Shami diligently focused on his recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) located in Bengaluru.

“360 days is a long, long time!! All set for the Ranji Trophy. Now back on the domestic stage with the same passion and energy. Huge thanks to all my fans for your endless love, support, and motivation – let’s make this season memorable!” wrote the 33-year-old speedster on the eve of his return.
At the end of the day, Madhya Pradesh trailed Bengal by 103 runs, having scored 103 for the loss of one wicket, taken by Mohammed Kaif, Shami’s brother.
