Cochran County Sheriff Jorge De La Cruz of Morton died this week after being re-elected to his position earlier this month during the Nov. 5 general election.
Cochran County Judge Pat Henry told the A-J he couldn’t immediately confirm the cause or other details about De La Cruz’s death, he said the sheriff would be remembered as a great friend to many in Cochran County.
“(Jorge was) a proud sheriff, a great community leader that will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and coworkers. He was an asset to our community,” Henry said.
The Cochran County Sheriff’s Office announced that a funeral service for De La Cruz will be held on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Morton. De La Cruz’s replacement as sheriff has not immediately been announced.
