KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University men’s basketball team dropped a 91-83 decision to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Thursday (Nov. 14) at Municipal Auditorium in the Bearcats/Gorillas Invitational.
The Mountain Lions (2-1) outscored the Gorillas (1-2), 7-2, in the game’s final 1:44 to seal the win. R.J. Forney Jr. hit a 3-pointer to draw Pitt State within three points, at 84-81, before UCCS closed out the game with its scoring flury.
Avery Taggart led five Gorillas in double figures with a game-high 21 points. Taggart hit six of 11 3-point field goals and added five rebounds and five assists in the game. Darrell Washington added 18 points, while Tanner Mans (15) Forney Jr. (12) and Jordan Frison (10) also scored in double figures. Frison added a team-leading six rebounds and eight assists in the contest.
UCCS placed six players in double figures and the Mountain Lions outscored the Gorillas, 28-11, at the free throw line.
Pitt State will return to action with a 7 p.m. contest Friday against William Jewell College in day two action of the Bearcats/Gorillas Invitational.
