Ranieri issues rallying cry to Roma supporters: ‘Whistling hurts us’

Claudio Ranieri called on Roma supporters to stop jeering the players when they step out on the Stadio Olimpico pitch, as he wants a ‘united’ supporter base during his temporary spell in charge of the Giallorossi.

The former Leicester City coach was appointed as head coach of Roma on Thursday evening, signing a short-term deal until the end of the 2024-25 season, at which point he will transition into an advisory role behind the scenes.

The 73-year-old oversaw his first training session on Thursday afternoon and gave his first press conference on Friday.

During his re-introduction to the press, Ranieri called on the Giallorossi supporters to get behind the players and to stop whistling them from the stands.

Ranieri considers himself a Roma supporter more than anything, which is why he felt able to comment on the fans’ behaviour.

“I’m a fan first and foremost, this is why I feel I can tell our fans to stick with us,” Ranieri told the press, reported via TMW.

“Playing at home in front of a whistling crowd hurts us. I believe in luck and if you sweat and pursue, luck has to change in the end. I want a united support.”
