PSL and IPL scheduling clash sparks concerns over foreign players availability | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The franchise owners of Pakistan Super League (PSL) have sought clarification from the national cricket board (PCB) regarding overseas players’ participation, as the tournament’s schedule might overlap with the Indian Premier League 2025.
A reliable source affiliated with PSL franchise owners confirmed that they have submitted a written request to Salman Naseer, the newly appointed PSL Director, urging him to arrange a prompt meeting to discuss their apprehensions.
“The owners want the PCB to give them clarity which players would be available for the PSL if the IPL is also being held at the same time and also about broadcasting schedules,” PTI quoted the source as saying.
“The owners are worried because of lack of clarity. The England and Wales Cricket Board and some other boards are talking about restrictions on their players playing in leagues so they want clarity ahead of the PSL players draft.”
The PSL typically occurs in February-March, but the 2025 edition has been rescheduled to April-May due to Pakistan’s hosting commitments for the 2025 Champions Trophy during the traditional PSL window.
The IPL is anticipated to maintain its usual schedule, running from March to May next year.
There are concerns amongst stakeholders that following the IPL mega auction in Saudi Arabia this weekend, many premier international players might become unavailable for selection.
The franchise owners have expressed worry that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) might not prioritise PSL-related matters due to various urgent commitments, particularly the upcoming Champions Trophy organisation.
“Some of the franchise owners have asked Salman Naseer to follow up on the promise of setting up an independent PSL secretariat which has not happened in 10 years.”
Following the conclusion of PSL’s 10th season next year, all participating franchises and the PCB will need to review their contractual arrangements and monetary commitments. The cricket governing body holds the authority to expand beyond the existing six-team structure of the PSL.
