2024 has so far been a really productive year for Archer, who has featured in 20 international games for England
In what might delight several Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction on November 24 & 25, England speedster Jofra Archer is believed to have put his name in the hat after not being a part of the initial 574-person shortlist.
The BCCI released the official mega auction shortlist last week and while James Anderson was part of the list, what came as a shock was the absence of the name of Archer. It was believed that the speedster had been instructed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to skip IPL 2025 in order to manage his workload in a massive year that will see the Three Lions play the Champions Trophy, five Tests at home against India and five Ashes away Tests in Australia.
But according to The Cricketer, after several talks, the ECB gave Archer the green light to enter the auction.
Considering the deadline to register for the mega auction was over a while back, Archer, if the reports are true, must have also got the green light from the BCCI to throw his name into the hat in the eleventh hour.
The 29-year-old has had a stop-start international career but 2024 has so far been a really productive year for Archer, who has featured in 20 international games for England – the most in five years. He was a part of England’s 2024 T20 World Cup squad and recently played in the five-match T20I series against West Indies which the Three Lions won 3-1.
