ASHLAND, Va. – Senior guard Caitlin Blackman posted her first double-double of the season dropping 16 points and hauling in 11 rebounds as the Dickinson women’s basketball team snapped their two-game skid with a 56-46 non-conference win over Roanoke College inside Crenshaw Gymnasium on the campus of Randolph-Macon College.
- Two triples by Clair Marion and a layup for Victoria Zerbe had DC out to an 8-1 edge with just under five minutes gone.
- Buckets from Paige Breuer and Peyton Kirchner trimmed the gap to 8-6, but Emma Landes, Lizzie McGrath and Marion responded to open the lead out to 13-8 with 33 seconds left.
- Ashley Fowler would hit from long-range prior to the buzzer making it 13-11 after one.
- Back-to-back layups for Alicea Farmer gave RC a 15-13 edge 66 seconds in.
- Six straight from Marion, four points for Ella Smith and a bucket by Blackman came during a 12-3 DC outburst to open up a 25-18 advantage with 3:57 left.
- Mariah Cain, Kiley Hylton and Breuer accounted for six of the final eight points of the frame to leave DC ahead 27-24 going to the break.
- Zerbe opened the scoring up 29-ticks in, but then a 9-3 run for the Maroons ending a jumper for Cain put RC in front 33-32 with 5:45 to play.
- Baskets from the trio of Jenna Weinstein, Landes and Marion aided an 11-3 Devils push making the lead 43-36 at the 8:34 mark.
- Farmer would notch the final bucket of the period setting the score at 43-38 with ten minutes remaining.
- Over the first four-plus minutes the teams combined to miss nine shots, with a Blackman triple being the only points with 60 seconds gone (46-36).
- Cain and Kirchner tried to keep RC within shouting distance at 49-43 with less than a minute remaining.
- However, the duo of Blackman and Marion would knock down seven of eight at the charity stripe to seal up the 56-46 victory.
