Part of Premium Outlets parking lot collapses from underground fire

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – The James City County Fire Department is investigating an underground fire at the Williamsburg Premium Outlets off of Richmond Road.

The JCC Fire Department said they were dispatched around 9 a.m. to the Premium Outlets for a possible underground fire.

Units arrived to find the parking lot behind the stores partially collapsed and an active fire in the underground stormwater detention facility.

Out of an abundance of caution, and due to smoke, some area businesses were evacuated.

This situation is ongoing and the public is encouraged to avoid the area.
