Aaron Rodgers doesn’t expect conversations about Jets future “anytime soon”

Date:

During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show this week, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers quipped about “being released by a teenager” at the end of the season in reference to a recent story about Jets owner Woody Johnson’s sons having influence over his decisions.

It’s not the first time that Rodgers has made a reference to being cut as soon as the season is over and he was asked at a Tuesday press conference if he’s gotten any indication that such a quick move is likely. Rodgers says he’s “been given zero,” but feels like anything is possible because he has not had any conversations with the team about 2025 at this point.

Rodgers said “you should ask Woody” when asked if he thinks Johnson would want him back before saying he expects that the team’s General Manager and head coaching searches will play out before any decisions are made.

“I would be surprised if there was a conversation now because there’s so many uncertainties,” Rodgers said, via a transcript from the team. “There’s a G.M. that has to get hired I would assume first, and then he’s going to be part of hiring the head coach, so I have to be in the plans of multiple people, starting with the ownership and then the G.M., and then the head coach, so that’s why, to me, that would not be a conversation I’m expecting anytime soon until those things are in place.”

Rodgers is dealing with a knee injury, but said he will definitely play against the Bills this week and that he plans to play in Week 18 as well. Anything that happens from there will likely take a little while to play out.
