Carman-Ainsworth boys basketball off to a perfect start

Date:

FLINT, Mich. (WNEM) – A team’s bond can be the difference between being good and great. For Carman-Ainsworth boys’ basketball, this year team might have one of the closes in Mid-Michigan.

The Cavaliers have 8 seniors on their roster. For this group of players, their time on the court goes back a long way.

“Me and my boys, we’ve been playing together since elementary school, so our bond on the court is just very close. We can trust each other on and off, so with that bond we have we can do something very special,” said Marquinn “Deuce” Weston, Senior Point Guard.

So far this season, it has been a special start, As Carman-Ainsworth is a perfect 4-0 for the first time since the 2020-21 season.

With the amount of experience on this team, they have been able to learn from their past mistakes.

“Last year, We would get down 10 point or something and we would just fold. This year, we’ve gotten down against Muskegon Mona Shores and we battled back. We were down 10 with three minutes to go in the third and we battled back and kept our composure, so that’s kind of the difference for this year and last year is us keeping our composure,” said Jay Witham, Carman-Ainsworth Boys Basketball Head Coach.

With several tough games in front of the Cavaliers before the end of Christmas break, they look to use those matchups to push them to their first Saginaw Valley League title in 4 years.

Donovan “Hawk” Hamlin: Senior Forward: “It definably prepares us for the SVL, one of the toughest conferences around, so it’s preparing us for tougher games later on. After all the hard work we put in, to just to come home with a conference championship would be great,” Donovan “Hawk” Hamlin, Senior Forward.

“it would be great to win this SVL with these guys, especially with these seniors and I’ve had Hawk for four years, so these guys have never had it before, so for them to do that as seniors, would be special,” said Witham
