Scottie Scheffler to miss first event of the season after Christmas dinner injury

Scottie Scheffler will miss the first event of the new season after sustaining a hand injury that required surgery.

His agent, Blake Smith, released a statement Friday afternoon explaining the incident and the impact:

“On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass. Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery. He has been told that he should be back to 100 percent in three to four weeks. Unfortunately, he will have to withdraw from The Sentry. His next scheduled tournament is The American Express.”

Scheffler is coming off one of the greatest seasons in PGA Tour history, winning seven tournaments, including the Masters, The Players, the Tour Championship and four signature events. He was also the FedExCup champion and capture gold at the Paris Olympics.

The Sentry, Jan. 2-5 at the Plantation course in Maui, will kick start the 2025 PGA Tour season. The American Express is the third tournament of the calendar year (following the Sony Open in Hawaii), Jan. 16-19 in La Quinta, California.
