ENDICOTT (WBNG) — Construction on Washington Avenue began one month ago and the schedule had it set to be completed this week but the is still filled with construction vehicles and road closed signs.
The project is to repave the road and build new sidewalks to help beautify the street, but the construction timetable has begun to strain business owners along the street. Owner of Lover’s Sushi & Hibachi Kay Ling told 12 News, “We know it’s a tough time for all of us, not just our sushi restaurant but, for every restaurant.”
Customers of shops and restaurants on Washington Avenue traditionally could park on the street and walk in, but with the road torn up, it has made finding parking and getting to the storefronts difficult. As a result, it has slowed business in the area. However, Ling is still hopeful about the future saying.
“We hope everything becomes more beautiful, and safer and brings more customers to us,” Ling said.
Parking for businesses in the meantime can be found in the village public parking lot on Madison Avenue or behind the businesses on East Ideal Alley.
12 News reached out to Village Mayor Nick Burlingame’s office to get updates on the timeframe of the roadwork but did not receive a response.
