Man Utd Deal Setback to PSG as €70M-Rated Star Eyes Old Trafford Switch

The January transfer window will present Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim with his first opportunity to mold the squad to fit his philosophy. However, the most significant reshaping is likely to come next summer, with Amorim reportedly eyeing a potential addition from Paris Saint-Germain.

Last summer, United secured Manuel Ugarte from PSG, and the midfielder has flourished under Amorim’s guidance. Now, the Portuguese coach is said to be targeting another familiar face from his Sporting Lisbon days—a reunion with Nuno Mendes.

According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United maintain strong interest in Mendes, who is reportedly intrigued by the prospect following discussions with his representatives.

Should the 21-year-old fail to secure a contract extension in Paris, PSG may entertain offers of around €70 million during the summer window.

Further fueling speculation, The iPaper’s Pete Hall reported on Tuesday that Mendes is eager to become Amorim’s first marquee signing at Old Trafford after talks over a new deal in the French capital hit a roadblock.

United share that enthusiasm but face financial hurdles that could complicate negotiations. With limited funds available in January and potentially next summer, The Red Devils’ hopes of landing the Portuguese wing-back might hinge on offloading underperforming players.

The club is open to offers for much of the current squad, including loan moves where salaries could be partially covered, creating room for new arrivals.
