Suspect dead, 2 officers injured after suspect rams cruiser during chase, police say

A suspect died after ramming into a police cruiser and leading officers on a chase Friday morning, according to our news partner 10TV.

Columbus police received a call about someone “down and out” in a vehicle on Sullivant Ave, according to police. When officers arrived, the person started acting erratically and rammed into a police cruiser, police say.

Police pursued the suspect through the neighborhood until the suspect suffered “some type of medical episode” and stopped, according to police. The chase ended near Hilltonia Middle School.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital in life-threatening condition and was pronounced dead around 6 a.m. Police say no shots were fired, but do not have details on the cause of the suspect’s death.

Two officers were injured in the incident. They were treated at a local hospital and released soon after, police say.
