Date:

play

With the race for a Southeastern Conference championship underway, No. 6 Texas will host Arkansas on Sunday afternoon.

Texas (14-1, 1-0) opened SEC play this week with an 80-73 win at Oklahoma. Meanwhile, Arkansas (7-9, 0-1) was beaten by 34 points in its SEC opener against Oklahoma.

Texas owns a 22-3 lead in its all-time series with Arkansas. The Razorbacks have won their last two games in Austin, but none of the team’s current players were alive when Arkansas last visited UT’s campus in 1991.

Longhorns, Razorbacks on opposite ends of SEC preseason poll

Back in October, Texas was picked to finish second in the SEC preseason poll. Meanwhile, Arkansas was voted into the preseason poll’s last slot.

On paper, that makes this one of the easier games during the month of January for Texas. Having just played No. 10 Oklahoma on Thursday, Texas must still face Alabama, South Carolina, Auburn, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Missouri this month. South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama and Ole Miss were respectively ranked as the No. 2, No. 13, No. 20 and No. 25 teams in the USA Today Sports Coaches Poll this week, and Auburn reached last season’s NCAA tournament.

Texas also has a nonconference game against No. 7 Maryland scheduled for Jan. 20.
