Aug. 27 (UPI) — The Washington Commanders and Northwest Federal Credit Union agreed to a naming rights deal, resulting in Northwest Stadium branding for their home facility in Landover, Md., the Commanders announced Tuesday.

“Northwest Federal Credit Union has been an integral part of this community for generations and we could not be prouder to partner with an organization as committed to the [Washington Metropolitan Area] as we are,” Commanders owner Josh Harris said in a news release.

The facility, currently called Commanders Field, was known as FedExField from 1999 to 2023. The stadium initially opened in 1997 as Jack Kent Cooke Stadium. The Commanders played at RFK Memorial Stadium/District of Columbia Stadium and Griffith Stadium in Washington, D.C., before their move to Landover.

They were founded in 1932 as the Boston Braves and played in that city until moving to Washington, D.C., in 1937.

The NFC East franchise and Northwest Federal Credit Union will officially launch their extended partnership at a news conference Sept. 15 before their Commanders’ home opener in Landover.

Northwest also will serve as the Commanders’ jersey patch partner for off-season and in-season practices. Fans who are Northwest members will get discounts on Commanders tickets and merchandise.

The Commanders will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their regular-season opener at 4:25 p.m. EDT Sept. 8 in Tampa, Fla. They will host the New York Giants a week later in their home opener.
