Nottingham Forest vs Wolves: Preview, predictions and lineups

Date:

Nottingham Forest are aiming to pour more misery on Wolverhampton Wanderers this Saturday when they welcome the Old Gold to the City Ground in the Premier League.

Led by former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, Forest have made an impressive start to the campaign. A draw at home to Bournemouth was followed up by last weekend’s 1-0 victory at newly-promoted Southampton courtesy of Morgan Gibbs-White.

A summer of fine-tuning their bloated and previously loan-heavy squad has proved fruitful in the opening weeks of the 2024/25 season.

Wolves have had a comparatively difficult start to the term, not helped by two challenging fixtures. A trip to last season’s runners-up Arsenal ended in defeat and Chelsea‘s visit to Molineux saw the Midlands club hit for six in a woeful defensive performance. Journeying to the City Ground should prove a more manageable prospect.

Here is 90min’s guide to Nottingham Forest vs Wolves this Saturday.

Nottingham Forest team news

Nottingham Forest have just the one absentee for Wolves’ visit and unfortunately it’s a player who will be sidelined for a long time to come. Danilo broke his ankle on the opening day of the season against Bournemouth and won’t make his return until 2025.

Forest appear to have already identified their strongest lineup and it’s unlikely Espirito Santo will change the formula that saw them beat Southampton last time out.

Nottingham Forest predicted lineup vs Wolves (4-2-3-1): Sels; Williams, Milenkovic, Murillo, Aina; Sangare, Anderson; Elanga, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi; Wood.

Wolves team news

It’s not been an incredibly busy summer for Wolves in terms of incomings, despite the departures of stars Max Kilman and Pedro Neto. One acquisition has been Jorgen Strand Larsen from Celta Vigo and the imposing forward scored his first Premier League goal in defeat to Chelsea.

Only fringe players are missing for Wolves ahead of Saturday’s trip across the Midlands. Sasa Kalajdzic is still sidelined after injuring himself in February, while Enso Gonzalez and Leon Chiwome are absent, too.

Wolves predicted lineup vs Nottingham Forest (4-4-2): Sa; Doherty, Mosquera, T. Gomes, Ait-Nouri; Hwang, J. Gomes, Lemina, R. Gomes; Cunha, Larsen.

Nottingham Forest vs Wolves score prediction

The last three clashes between these two sides have ended all square and Saturday’s battle has score draw written all over it. Neither side are particularly expansive going forward and it may prove a cagey battle between Espirito Santo and his old side.

Both should be able to field strong lineups at the weekend with very few injuries and a potential winner will be decided by each club’s game-changing attackers. However, the two sides may cancel one another out at the City Ground with a hard-fought point going both ways.
