Winnipeg’s Seth Jarvis Signs Monster Eight-Year, $63.2 Million Contract

Date:

Seth Jarvis is staying in Raleigh… not that anyone really thought otherwise.

On Saturday morning, the Hurricanes announced the eight-year, $63.2 million contract, which will carry a $7.9 annual average value and a unique styled cap hit for the duration of the deal.

Eric Tulsky, a ‘math guy’ who has become the Hurricanes’ general manager over the offseason, experimented with back-loaded/deferred money on the contract signed by team captain Jaccob Slavin earlier in the year.

This time, however, he took it to a whole new level with $29.24 million of Jarvis’ pay coming as a deferred signing bonus.

The 22-year-old Jarvis had 33 goals and 67 points for the Canesd in 2023-24, which were both career-highs. He also tipped the scales with 34 assists, 13 power play goals, two shorthanded goals and nine game-winners. The Winnipeg product added another five goals and nine points in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

“Seth is a cornerstone player for our franchise,” Tulsky said on Saturday. “He took another huge step last season, playing in all situations and displaying the skill and competitive drive that will make him a star in this league in the years to come.”

The 5-foot-10, 184-pound centreman was selected by Carolina 13th overall in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft – three places after Winnipeg selected Cole Perfetti at No. 10 overall. In 231 regular season games, Jarvis has 64 goals and 146 points.
