Like Father, Like Son: Samit Dravid Follows Rahul Dravid’s Footsteps, Named in India U-19 Squad for Australia Series

Samit Dravid has followed in the footsteps of his father Rahul Dravid after the youngster was named in India’s U-19 squad for the upcoming series against Australia U19. The India U-19 side will play three white-ball and two red-ball matches against Australia in Puducherry and Chennai respectively.

Samit received his maiden India call-up on Saturday, 31 August after BCCI revealed the two squads for the ODI and four-day red-ball games.

Samit Dravid had recently impressed upon his senior men’s cricket debut while representing Mysuru Warriors during the Maharaja T20 Trophy in Karnataka. In seven innings that he played, the teenager amassed 82 runs with the bat at a strike rate of 114, and that’s not all, Samit can also bowl medium pace.

Dravid, 18, helped Karnataka win the Cooch Behar Trophy earlier, wherein the budding all-rounder smashed 362 runs while also picking up 16 wickets in 8 games. Karnataka beat Mumbai in the final as Samit picked up two wickets in the summit clash.

India U-19 ODI squad will be led by Mohamed Amaan from Uttar Pradesh, while Madhya Pradesh’s Soham Patwardhan will be leading the side in red-ball games.

The Indian team will play three ODI games against Australia, all three games will be played in Puducherry. The first game is scheduled for 21 September, followed by the next two matches on 23 and 26. The first multi-day fixture in Chennai will be played from 30 September, and the second fixture gets underway on 7 October.

Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid had recently completed his stint as head coach of the Indian team and helped the Men in Blue win the T20 World Cup 2024 in June. Since then, he has been linked to multiple IPL teams, with Rajasthan Royals reportedly offering him the head coach duties.
