Following the Partenopei’s late comeback win over Parma at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium this evening, coach Antonio Conte provided his insight on the hectic match.
Parma managed to spoil the party following the arrival of pair of midfielders Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour as forward Ange-Yoan Bonny converted a penalty shot in the 18th minute of play.
Just as it seemed like Azzurri may have been on the cusp pf dropping points, Param shot-stopper Zion Suzuki received a second yellow and was sent off after the Gialloblu used all of their five substitutions prior.
Hence, defender Enrico Delprato was forced to enter in between the sticks a a man down with eleven minutes of added time.
Consequently, the Partenopei smelled blood and rose to the occasion as Romelu Lukaku quickly found the back of the net in the 93rd to level scoreboard, igniting a flame of hope.
Three minutes after, central midfielder Franck Anguissa buried a staggering header in courtesy of David Neres’ sublime cross into the box to complete the comeback-win and seal all three points.
Whilst speaking under the microphones to DAZN, relayed by CalcioNapoli1926, Conte touched upon his perspective of the match overall:
“After Lukaku’s goal I went onto the pitch to tell them to take the ball and come back because it was a draw and there were ten minutes of injury time left. I saw a heartfelt performance against an excellent team, very physically strong, I said it in the conference that we had to be careful. We could have done better with the goals we conceded.
“Today we only had Lobotka and Anguissa in midfield and no one on the bench because youngsters like Coli Saco and Iaccarino left on the last day. This is not good, and I hope the format changes. Romelu came in with two training sessions, we will try to take advantage of the break to work with him and Neres and Gilmour will leave and we will have them back in a week.
“Anguissa? We have to find goals from everyone, we have to be more incisive even on dead balls with goals from defenders. At Juve we had Del Piero who put the ball in his head. In our game we try to involve the midfielders, the the defenders, especially the centre-backs, especially Di Lorenzo.
We started the reconstruction with 12, 13 guys. Good players have arrived, we have a market blocked by various vicissitudes. The new ones have arrived to fill the boxes, I’m happy with the work done by the club. If there had been the sale of Osimhen we would have completed the situation more but we are happy anyway. The guys training now after the match? There are Lukaku, Neres and others who have had little time to adapt. It seems to me the least that the boys train given that I have scheduled the restart for Wednesday.”
