Juventus Legend Argues ‘Inter Milan Are Strong Because They Haven’t Changed’

Legendary former Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero feels that continuity from last season is the strong point of Inter Milan.

The Bianconeri and Italy icon gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri this season speaking on Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews.

This summer, Inter’s priority was not hard to understand.

After a few years in which there had been a fair bit of flux in the Nerazzurri squad, the club looked to keep last season’s team together at all costs.

Of course, there were a few departures as there always are.

But the spine of players who started regularly last campaign all remained.

Meanwhile, Inter made just four signings. That is one third as many as last summer, when a whopping twelve players came in.

Two of the signings were free transfers.

Inter brought in striker Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski. Both are players who the Nerazzurri have earmarked to add strength in depth for the immediate future.

Then, Inter’s other two signings look to be investments for the longer term.

The Nerazzurri signed Josep Martinez from Genoa. The Spaniard looks to be the designated long-term successor to Yann Sommer in goal.

And in defense, Inter brought in the inexperienced but promising defender Tomas Palacios from Argentina.

Del Piero: “Inter Milan Strong Because They Haven’t Changed”

At the start of this season, Inter look much like the team that they were last season.

That doesn’t come as too much of a surprise considering that, in so many respects, they are.

The Nerazzurri have decided not to tinker with the team that won the title by a margin of nearly twenty points last time around.

Former Juventus forward contrasted Inter’s summer transfer strategy with that of his former team.

“Inter have signed different kinds of players to Juventus,” the former Italian international said.

“Zielinski is now Italian, because he’s been here for so many years. Taremi has a lot of experience.”

“Their strength is that they haven’t changed,” Del Piero said of Inter.

“They have not messed with a solidity that was already clear to see.”

Del Piero argued that “Even when they played badly, they’d win 3-0.”

The Juventus legend admitted, “Obviously for emotional reasons, I hope that Inter don’t win the Scudetto again.”

“But at the moment they’re well out in front. Then maybe teams like Napoli can emerge to challenge them,”
