There haven’t been anything more than exploratory inquiries from Greece and Turkey about out-of-favour Inter Milan forward Joaquin Correa.
This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews. They report that there is some interest in the Argentine from leagues where the transfer window is still open – but no concrete offers.
One thing that is clear is that Correa will not be leaving Inter for a team in a top five European league this summer.
The transfer window has been closed for a few days in Serie A and other top leagues.
Correa had reportedly hoped for a transfer to a team in Italy, or in another bigger name league, if he were to leave Inter this summer.
Despite his recent struggles, the 30-year-old still believes that he has something to offer at a high level.
Therefore, Correa has not been too keen on moves to less prestigious leagues.
However, a move to a team in Serie A or another top European league never materialized for Correa.
The former Lazio and Sevilla forward’s wages were certainly a big factor in this.
Correa is set to earn €3 million net on the final year of his contract with Inter.
Those clubs who considered taking a chance on the Argentine were hardly prepared to pay wages in that range for a player who has been out of form, coming off the back of a miserable loan spell at Marseille.
Nothing More Than Exploratory Inquiries From Greece & Turkey For Joaquin Correa
So Correa has remained at Inter past the end of the summer transfer window in Serie A.
That does not mean, however, that there would be no chance of a transfer for the 30-year-old.
As FCIN note, there are leagues where the window remains open.
In Greece, the window will be open until the 11th of September. And the Turkish top flight’s window is open until September 13th.
Therefore, Inter are still waiting to see if any offers arrive from these leagues in particular for Correa.
And FCIN confirm that there has been some interest.
Panathanaikos, in particular, have shown some interest in bringing Correa to Greece. This follows interest from their Athens rivals AEK earlier in the summer.
But FCIN report that, thus far, none of this interest has resulted in a serious offer.
Inter and Correa are still awaiting something concrete.
And so in the meantime, the Nerazzurri will wait. There is still a week in which a team from Greece or Turkey could decide to make a concrete offer.
But for now, FCIN report, there has yet to be an offer from a club in either league, as had been the case with other European leagues earlier in the summer.
And in any event, Correa is in no rush to leave Inter.
The Argentine is well aware of the fact that, if he stays at the Nerazzurri, it will be purely be as a backup. He is willing to accept a peripheral role as injury cover in attack.
Correa has understood that this is the situation since returning to Inter at the end of his loan to Marseille.
Therefore, if offers from the Greek or Turkish leagues do not convince the 30-year-old, he may well still stay at Inter until the end of his contract at the end of the season.
