Real Madrid legend talks about club’s attacking trident, picks his Ballon d’Or winner

Real Madrid’s legendary fullback Marcelo recently sat down with TNT Sports for an interview, where he talked about all things Real Madrid.

The former player expressed excitement about the potential of Real Madrid’s forward line, now reinforced by the arrival of Kylian Mbappe, who joined Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes.

Vinicius has two Champions Leagues, Rodrygo has two, and now Mbappeis here too,” he noted, highlighting Real Madrid’s explosive front three.

With Mbappé now part of the mix, the former Madridista has set his expectations high: “They’ll win three or four more. It’s over, man.”

Marcelo is regarded as one of the best fullbacks to ever play for Real Madrid. He played for the club between 2007 and 2022.

During his time at Santiago Bernabeu, Marcelo had won five Champions League titles while appearing in almost 550 competitive matches.

Marcelo on the Ballon d’Or race

The legend didn’t just stop at forecasting Real Madrid’s road ahead. He also had strong opinions on the Ballon d’Or race, believing one of Madrid’s own should take home the coveted prize.

“The Ballon d’Or? They’ll give it to Vinicius for sure,” he predicted. Marcelo appeared firm in believing that the winger’s influence on the pitch and his exceptional performances would be enough to seal the coveted prize.

However, he expressed disappointment at the exclusion of Rodrygo from the list of nominees for this year’s Ballon d’Or.

“Rodrygo was left out, I didn’t understand that either,” he lamented, pointing to the forward’s crucial contributions during the previous campaign.

“People don’t know the criteria. I think they made a mistake. Rodrygo, for me, should be at least among the 15 or 10 best players in the world,” he concluded.

Marcelo is not the only personality to show support for Rodrygo following his snub. Recently, even former Barcelona superstar Neymar backed the Brazilian, even calling him as one of the top five players in the world.
