Marnus Labuschagne Faces Suspension After Heated Argument With Umpire In Grade Cricket Match | Australia Cricket News

Date:

Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne could be suspended for showing dissent towards umpires during a grade cricket match in Australia.

Labuschagne was involved in a controversy during a recent grade cricket match in Brisbane over a run-in with an umpire. The incident occurred during the KFC T20 Max tournament semi-final between Redlands and Valleys.

Leading the Redlands, Labuschagne was visibly frustrated during the seventh over of Valleys’ chase when the umpire ruled Leigh Drennan’s catch of batter Hugh Weibgen not out, deeming it a bump ball.

Footage from the official broadcast Kayo revealed a heated conversation between the umpires, where Labuschagne appeared to be arguing about it as a fair catch. The animated discussion continued after the next ball until the umpire apparently told the Redlands captain to walk away.

After that over, the two umpires convened mid-pitch, drawing speculation from the commentators of the possible consequences Labuschagne might face for his behaviour.

Labuschagne to join Australia squad for ODIs in England

Labuschagne has been charged with a level 2 dissent against an umpire and will likely face a tribunal hearing this week, where he could be handed a suspension.

He is set to join Australia’s ODI squad in their upcoming series in England. It is worth noting that the possible repercussions of his actions during the match wouldn’t jeopardise his international participation due to the limitation of the conduct commissioner.

However, he might still be suspended in domestic cricket. With Queensland announcing him as the captain for the 2024-25 Sheffield Sheild, any suspension would be a huge blow for the side.
