Real Madrid are very attentive to the situation of Liverpool and England right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, reports transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Alexander-Arnold has been a mainstay in the Liverpool backline for years now. But his contract with the Premier League giants expires at the end of the ongoing season.
With no negotiations taking place over an extension as of yet, the England international could leave the club as a free agent at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
Real Madrid monitoring, but no talks
As such, Romano reports that Real Madrid are closely monitoring Alexander-Arnold and his situation at Liverpool.
But the Italian journalist does specify that at this point there have been no negotiations held between the two parties over a possible transfer.
Even though Dani Carvajal is expected to sign a new contract at Real Madrid in the coming months, the Spaniard, at 32, is entering the final phase of his career and will eventually need to be phased out gradually.
Signing a player like Alexander-Arnold, entering the prime years of his career, would ensure that Los Blancos have the right-back position secured for a long time.
So, it does not come as a surprise that the reigning champions of Spain and Europe are watching his situation closely, knowing that they might get an opportunity to snap him up on a free transfer.
The presence of Jude Bellingham in the Real Madrid dressing room could help the Merengues in their pursuit, considering the close bond he shares with the right-back.
Liverpool, though, are unlikely to go down without a fight and will make serious attempts to renew Alexander-Arnold’s contract.
For now, there are no negotiations, but Real Madrid are waiting in the wings to swoop in if Alexander-Arnold’s contract talks at Liverpool do not progress. After all, the 25-year-old will be free to negotiate with a club of his choice from January.
