Forgotten Barcelona star poised for squad return after 13 months for Monaco clash

Date:

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Ansu Fati is set to make a return to Barcelona’s matchday squad for their upcoming UEFA Champions League clash against Monaco.

This would mark his first appearance in the team this season after a lengthy recovery from an injury to the sole of his right foot. The injury, sustained at the end of July, kept Ansu sidelined for over a year, and he missed the club’s pre-season tour in the United States as a result.

Having been out of action for 13 months, the Barcelona youth product is expected to feature in the matchday squad, giving Hansi Flick a significant boost.

The Spanish international’s pre-season was interrupted, preventing him from building up his fitness in time for the Girona fixture. As a result, his return was delayed until he could fully recover and reach optimal fitness.

A timely return

Ansu’s absence has been keenly felt, but his return is perfectly timed with Barcelona’s demanding schedule in September. The injuries to Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez have left gaps in the squad, and Ansu could seize the opportunity to reclaim his spot on the left wing.

He will be competing with Ferran Torres and Raphinha for that position, but his talent and experience could give him the edge.

After spending last season on loan at Brighton, the youngster returns to Barça with a renewed sense of purpose. He is once again wearing the iconic number 10 shirt and will look to recapture his best form.

The coaching staff, particularly those responsible for his physical conditioning, have tailored a special programme to ensure he returns stronger than before.

Meanwhile, Gavi and Frenkie de Jong have also been training with the squad, along with youth players Guille, Toni Fernandez, and Jorge Cuenca, who may also be considered for selection.

As Barcelona navigate through this busy period, the return of a fully fit Ansu could provide the club with the much-needed depth and quality in attack.
