Sep. 18—Clarkston High alum and PGA professional Tyler Carlson has brought his golf expertise back to the valley.
After a stint working at Quail Ridge Golf Course, the former Oregon State Beaver made the move last month to become the new head golf pro at Lewiston Golf and Country Club. His intention is to make this a long-term commitment.
“I’ve never been a head pro at a private club, and so just wanted to take on a new challenge, and my wife and I just thought this is the best opportunity for us,” Carlson said.
Carlson’s father Rod and cousin Paul were the owners of the Quail Ridge course from around 2001-22, and he grew up playing there.
He won a Washington Class 2A state title playing for Clarkston in 2012, then competed for Oregon State at the collegiate level and lived in the Portland area working as a golf pro for the next few years. His return to the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley came after his wife Brittany was admitted to the veterinary program at Washington State, in which she has now been enrolled three years.
“She’s going to school, I’m working, and once she graduates in spring 2025, we will stay, and hopefully she’ll get a job down there,” Tyler Carlson said.
He hopes to put his new position to use “building the membership, establishing the junior golf program to attract families that have kids and introducing them to the game of golf, and continuing to grow that way.”
“It’s a lifelong sport,” he said. “(Let’s) continue to play it.”
