Genoa-Sampdoria clashes continue after Coppa Italia derby

Unfortunately, Genoa and Sampdoria ultras clashed again after the Coppa Italia tie ended in a penalty shootout, with riot police trying to keep them separated.

It was no secret that the Derby della Lanterna was going to be a very high-risk fixture and the fighting in the streets started many hours before kick-off.

With that in mind, the attendance at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris – also known as Marassi – was less than the tickets sold, as some decided to stay home rather than run into these street clashes.

They might’ve had a point, because the game ended 1-1 with goals from Andrea Pinamonti and Fabio Borini, so with no extra time in these stages of the Coppa Italia, it went straight to a penalty shootout.

Sampdoria won and eliminated their bitter rivals Genoa, setting up a Third Round meeting with Roma.

According to Sky Sport Italia, there were already signs of danger when the Samp ultras left the stands early, aiming to get into position for an ambush.

Riot police were ready too and have so far managed to keep the two groups separated, but quite a few fans are still stuck inside the stadium.

Fireworks have been fired from one side to the other at dangerously low levels, as well as objects thrown.
