A new era begins in Lexington. Mark Pope takes over for his alma mater as Kentucky basketball looks to revamp.
The Wildcats haven’t advanced past the NCAA second round in the past four seasons, a standard essential to the success of the program. It came as no shock when Kentucky decided to make some changes, and what better change to turn to that one of your own?
Pope played for the Wildcats for two seasons, winning two SEC titles and captaining the 1996 championship squad. He knows a thing or two about what it takes to succeed. We’ll see if he can make the transition from BYU to good old southern basketball.
With a new roster, Kentucky will take the court for the first time in a Blue-White intrasquad scrimmage at Memorial Coliseum, a venue the team has played at just once in nearly 50 years. This year’s format will feature practice sessions for both the men’s and women’s teams.

The game is the team’s first appearance at Memorial Coliseum in 15 years, and fans are excited to see the Wildcats return as well as their first performance under Pope. With all the hype, the cheapest passes for the exhibition match are $130 with a month until tipoff.
