Kansas basketball coach Bill Self recently sat down with college basketball analysts Jeff Goodman and Robbie Hummel on their latest episode of the Field of 68: After Dark podcast.
In the episode, Self talks about the effects the transfer portal and Name, Image and Likeness has had on KU’s program and college basketball as a whole.
Early in the episode, Self was asked by Hummel how he has had to coach kids differently because of some of the changes in college basketball these last few years
“Uh … verbiage,” Self said jokingly. “In all honestly, I think that kids still want to be coached. I still think great players want to get better. I still think there’s a hunger that exists that kids still yearn for accountability and discipline.”
Self was also asked about the starting five rotation and which players have stood out thus far this offseason. He was quick to give props to South Dakota State transfer Zeke Mayo.
When speaking about the starting rotation, he said “It would be hard to keep ‘Juan, KJ, Hunt, and Zeke Mayo out of the starting lineup.”
Speaking further on Mayo, Self said “he’s been our most consistent, best guy since June.”
