HS GOLF: Riverside, Scranton Prep reach Class 2A league final

Riverside and Lackawanna Trail tied in their Lackawanna Golf League Class 2A semifinal Friday, but the Vikings advanced on the fifth golfer tiebreaker.

Jacob O’Brien had birdies on Nos. 3 and 8 at Scranton Canoe Club and shot 31 to earn co-medalist honors.

Brayden Jones also carded a 31 for Lackawanna Trail to share medalist honors.

The top four golfers from both teams totaled 139, forcing the match to be decided by the lowest fifth golfer score. That was Riverside’s Kyle Connor with a 39.

Scranton Prep 144, Lakeland 199

At Glenmaura National, Brendan Bell had birdies on Nos. 1 and 6 and earned medalist honors with a 35 as Scranton Prep won its semifinal over Lakeland.

Cole Powell had birdies on Nos. 1 and 4 for the Cavaliers. Ben Boyanoski (Nos. 6,7), T.J. Stott (6,8) and Ben Walsh (6) also added birdies.

Scranton Prep and Riverside will meet in the Class 2A 18-hole final Wednesday at Elkview Country Club at a time to be determined. Abington Heights and Honesdale will meet the same day at Elkview in the Class 3A final.
