Doug Emhoff’s daughter clarifies basketball post—”I was bad”

Second daughter, Ella Emhoff, isn’t just into style—she’s a sports lover, too.

Vice President Kamala Harris’s stepdaughter was front and center at a WNBA game on September 24. Emhoff shared photos of her courtside outfit as she cheered on the New York Liberty to a 91-82 win over the Atlanta Dream at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

She and her brother, Cole, are the children of Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, from his first marriage to film producer Kerstin Emhoff.

In the first post to her Instagram stories, Emhoff is sitting by the court looking back at the camera while wearing a black, white and green bomber jacket by the brand Off White, which she had tagged in the story.

“I grew up playing basketball so this is kind of a dream for me. Really amazing to see how the WNBA has grown over the years. Continue to support women’s sports!!! But mainly New York Liberty,” she wrote.

In the following story, Emhoff shared two throwback photos of her playing basketball as a child alongside a photo of her at the Liberty game and looking at the camera.

“Ball will forever be life. (I feel like I need to make it very clear… I was bad. But I love sports),” she captioned the post.

Emhoff has been a vocal supporter of her stepmother as she campaigns ahead of the November presidential election. The model and fashion designer even spoke at the Democratic National Convention in August, where Harris won her party’s nomination following President Joe Biden‘s decision to step out of the race.

Earlier this month, Emhoff encouraged her 481,000 Instagram followers to ensure they were registered to vote.

She posted a video of herself knitting an American flag and the words “I voted” onto a piece of material over the song “Freedom” by Beyoncé, which played in the background. The song has been the anthem of Harris and her presidential campaign since she decided to run for the White House.

“it’s national voter registration day,” Ella Emhoff wrote in the caption of her video.

“Check your status . register if you haven’t. make sure your friends and family are registered. make sure you have a voting plan,” she added.

“there is so much at risk for so many people. your vote matters.”

Emhoff also hit back at Republican Vice Presidential candidate J.D. Vance, who made headlines when a video of him resurfaced where he slammed Democrats as “childless cat ladies.”

“We are effectively run in this country via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, so they want to make the country miserable too,” Vance said in a 2021 interview with Fox News.

Vance later defended the comments, saying they were not “about criticizing people” who do not have children but were about “criticizing the Democratic Party for becoming anti-family and anti-child.”

But Emhoff poked fun at Vance when she posted a photo of her and her brother, Cole, on social media.

“How can you be ‘childless’ when you have cutie pie kids like Cole and I?” she wrote on an Instagram story in July. “I love my three parents.”
