Animals taken from Electra home during cruelty investigation in need of toys, medicine

Date:

ELECTRA (KFDX/KJTL) — After being taken from an Electra home last week amid an investigation into animal cruelty, 19 dogs and fur cats have a rough road of recovery ahead of them.

According to animal control officer Kari Banahan, three puppies taken from the home have come down with parvo, and two additional puppies have to be hospitalized so far.

Banahan said that’s where the community can help, as the Iowa Park reclaim shelter, where the animals are now staying, is in dire need of monetary donations to help take care of the dogs and cats seized from the house.

Vaccines, dewormers, and flea and tick prevention for all of the animals alone cost nearly $1,000, and the shelter could use everything from puppy food to puppy pads to chew toys, just no raw hide.

The amount of donations they’ve received so far speaks volumes about the Texasoma community.

“The amount of donations that has come in it’s been absolutely amazing, it’s been very humbling,” Banahan said. “Kind of brought tears to my eyes because everybody has come together so well. We’ve had so many donations.”

Banahan said if you are interested in making a donation of food, toys, or money, contact the P.E.T.S. Clinic at (940) 723-7387.
