UNC basketball program look to seal the deal with Class of 2025 shooter

Date:

Hubert Davis has finally gotten his high school recruiting back in gear with the recent commitment of combo guard Derek Dixon. The UNC basketball program’s head coach seems ready to close out his backcourt of the future.

According to Stockrisers, Hubert Davis and two assistants went to see 2025 shooting guard Braylon Mullins for the second time this month. These visits sandwich the 6-foot-5 senior’s official visit to Chapel Hill from September 13-15.

The UNC basketball program has a reason for optimism. The Tar Heels were named one of three finalists for Braylon Mullins shortly after his official visit to Indiana. His visit to Connecticut was way back in early August, hopefully, a distant memory, and fortunately for the Huskies, in the middle of summer. Had he visited in December or January, UConn would surely be stricken from the list.

Mullins could fill a crucial need for North Carolina, as they will lose RJ Davis, who will exhaust his eligibility after the 2024-25 season. Ian Jackson and Elliot Cadeau are serious threats to leave early if their Draft stock is high enough. With a frontcourt that shouldn’t expect as much attrition, Mullins could walk into a situation where he gets plenty of early minutes with veteran post players to help him settle.

It will be tough prying him away from Indiana, but if there is any school that can point to Indiana players succeeding away from home, it’s North Carolina. Hell, assistant coach Sean May is an Indiana legend, and current player Jalen Washington can show Mullins how the program will help him grow and thrive.

Hubert Davis has already put one on the board for 2025. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that he can pull in an impressive second guard!
