Iowa women’s basketball player Sydney Affolter will be sidelined until early November, the program announced Tuesday afternoon.

Affolter, a senior, recently underwent a surgical scope on her knee, according to a news release. She will be ready to return to action in early November, though an exact date is not known.

“This is an unfortunate setback for Sydney, but she will work hard during her rehab and is expected to make a full recovery,” head coach Jan Jensen said in the release. “She has the support of her teammates and coaches, and we look forward to having a healthy Sydney back when she is given clearance from our medical staff.”

Affolter was a critical part of the Hawkeyes’ run to the national title game a season ago, playing her best basketball when it mattered most. The Chicago native stepped up in a big way after Molly Davis went down with a knee injury during the regular-season finale. Affolter was named to the Big Ten’s All-Tournament team as well as the All-Regional team during the NCAA Tournament. As a junior, she averaged 8.4 points per game and grabbed 6.4 boards per game.

Iowa kicks off the season with an exhibition on Oct. 30 against Missouri Western. The Hawkeyes begin the regular season on Nov. 6 against Northern Illinois at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
