Receiver Davante Adams, long rumored as a Jets target, tells Raiders he prefers to be traded

Date:

Every time Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams’ name has popped up in trade rumors, the Jets have been floated as a natural landing spot, given Adams’ eight years with Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay and the club’s championship aspirations.

And now, those trade rumors of Adams being dealt are louder than ever.

According to NFL Network, Adams has informed the Raiders that he prefers to be traded, taking things beyond any previous speculation that the wide receiver wanted out of Vegas.

Additionally, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Raiders would “consider” trading the star wideout for a second-round pick plus additional draft compensation.

In three games this season, Adams has 18 catches for 209 and a touchdown, including a 110-yard performance in a surprise win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2. And in 37 career games in the Silver and Black, Adams has 221 catches for 2,869 yards and 23 touchdowns, continuing to prove himself as one of, if not the best, receivers in the NFL.

So could the Jets come calling?

Joe Douglas added to the team’s receiving corps this offseason by signing Mike Williams and drafting Malachi Corley to complement rising star Garrett Wilson. The Jets have taken things slowly with Williams as he recovers from last season’s knee injury, but he’s made an impact with eight catches for 120 yards, including a season-high 67 yards this past week against Denver. Corley, a third-round pick, has been on the field for just two snaps this season, making one catch for four yards. Meanwhile, fellow Rodgers favorite Allen Lazard has been the team’s leading receiver with 206 yards on 16 catches.

All that being said, the Jets could certainly look to add to their receiving group, given that their championship window that centers around the 40-year-old Rodgers, and Adams has previously added fuel to the fire of those Jets rumors by saying on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast that he wouldn’t mind reuniting with his former quarterback.

“Well, I’ll answer it like this: If I’m gonna be reunited with anybody, it would be Aaron — or relocated and be anywhere, it’d be with Aaron,” Adams said.

In that same July interview, Adams said he was “locked in” with the Raiders, but didn’t dismiss the possibility that things could change.

“I’m locked in with the Raiders and I really feel good about this team, and as far as I know they feel good about me,” Adams said. “If that ever changes, if that got to a point where they weren’t feeling the same way, I ain’t done playing, so obviously we would figure out whatever we needed to figure out.”

Now, with an official trade request on the books, all eyes will be on whether or not the six-time Pro Bowler actually gets dealt, and if he could end up with his former QB in New York.
