Here are eight breakout golfers looking to carry that regional momentum into the sectionals.

Nick Herget, Dunlap

The sophomore was individual runner-up finisher at the Class 2A Canton Regional. His 2-over 74 at Wee-Ma-Tuk Country Club in Cuba was four shots behind Jacksonville senior Colton Barr (2-under 70). Herget shot an even-par 35 on the front nine, then was two-over on the back, highlighted by a birdie on No. 14. The Eagles, who last took home a sectional title in 2013, won the team regional, advancing to the Champaign Centennial Sectional on Monday.

Ty Partee, Limestone

A third-place individual finish by Partee helped the Rockets advance to Monday’s Champaign Centennial Sectional. The senior shot a 3-over 75 at the Class 2A Canton Regional, making a birdie, two bogeys and a double on the 6,427-yard course at Wee-Ma-Tuk Country Club. He teamed with classmates Brayden Schleich (6-over 78) along with Alec Williams (7-over 79) and Gavin Kleist (7-over 79) to trail Dunlap by just two strokes, 309-311.

Gavin Spohn, Richwoods

Spohn grabbed a top-10 finish at the Class 2A Canton Regional. He tied with teammate Brock Brown with a 7-over 79 on the Wee-Ma-Tuk Country Club course. Spohn’s round included a 4-over 39 on the front nine, then went for a 3-over 40 on the back. His round highlight came with an eagle on the par-5, 520-yard 16th hole. Spohn now heads to the Champaign Centennial Sectional to play on the University of Illinois Golf Course in Savoy.

Jack Coulter, Peoria Notre Dame

Coulter came up big by winning the Class 2A East Peoria Regional individual title at Kellogg Golf Course in Peoria. The sophomore carded a 2-under 70, shooting a 4-under 32 on the front nine. Those nine holes included a pair of birdies as well as making an eagle on the par-5, 518-yard fifth hole. The second-place Irish team now makes its way to the Champaign Centennial Sectional, teeing up at the University of Illinois Golf Course in Savoy on Monday.

Jordan Kerr, Metamora

The junior could be credited with helping Metamora win the Class 2A East Peoria Regional by one stroke over PND, 313-314. His third-place individual finish with a 3-over 75 at the Kellogg Golf Course in Peoria helped give the Redbirds their first regional championship in program history. Kerry birdied holes five, six and seven for a 1-over 37 on the front nine. Kerr’s back nine included birdies on 15 and 17, advancing him and Metamora to the Champaign Centennial Sectional.

Gavin Schreurs, Washington

The junior was a one-stroke winner of the Class 3A Bradley-Bourbonnais Regional at Kankakee Elks Country Club in St. Anne.
