NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan opener Mudassar Nazar on Thursday said Virat Kohli will be remembered as one of the greatest in cricket’s history, quashing comparisons between the Indian superstar and Babar Azam.
After a recent poor run of form, Babar on Wednesday stepped down as Pakistan’s white-ball captain and former opener Mudassar blamed the nations’ cricket board for fiasco in Pakistan cricket.
For Mudassar, Babar still has a long way to go as a batter as he heaped praise on India skipper Rohit Sharma.
“I mean there is a hell of a difference between the two players. Virat will be remembered as one of the greatest who has graced the game. Babar has still got to make a name for himself,” news agency PTI quoted Mudassar as saying.
“I love to watch Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. When they are at the peak and playing well, it is fantastic to watch them. You could sit in front of the TV for hours and just watch those two play,” he added.
Mudassar blasted the PCB for the team’s recent downfall as he suggested that the board should put more weight behind their captain.
“It is our own doing (the friction between Babar and Shaheen). We shouldn’t have messed around with the set-up,” Mudassar said.
“There was one set captain, we should have given him a longer term and if somebody else had been made a captain, then he should have had a decent go at it. And not been thrown out straight away.”
The PCB is yet to name the white-ball captain after Babar’s resignation.
Pakistan next assignment is the home Test series against England which commences on October 7 in Multan.
