Ven-Allen Lubin aims to be a ‘powerful player on both ends of the floor’

Date:

In need of some additional front court depth, Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program found a way to convince Vanderbilt transfer Ven-Allen Lubin to make his way to Chapel Hill.

Although he’s not the size of a traditional big man, Lubin is a 6-foot-8 forward who plays bigger than his size. It’s very possible that North Carolina will use him as a smaller “five,” a role he seemed to thrive in while at Vanderbilt.

During the UNC basketball program’s media day on Friday afternoon, Lubin was asked what he expects his role to be for this year’s team. Here’s what the rising junior had to say:

“Just being a powerful player on both ends of the floor, you know, defensively, offensively. Being able to make the right plays every time. And on defense just trying to be as active as possible, whether it’s just grabbing rebounds, you know, blocking shots, or even just creating plays by driving. Putting a ball in the basket or just finding open guys, you know. So, we got a lot of guys who can play the game, you know, the right way. And so, it’s gonna be a great fit for all of us to play together and put the pieces together.”

The front court for the UNC basketball program will look a lot different this season, especially with Armando Bacot not being in the mix anymore. While Bacot manned the middle essentially for five seasons, the Tar Heels seem to be ready to mix-and-match with a variety of options as they search for the right recipe throughout the regular season.

While Hubert Davis looks for that mix, Ven-Allen Lubin looks to prove that he deserves to play a big role for this year’s team.
