Escambia and Santa Rosa County Student of the Week for Oct. 1-4 announced

Congratulations to Pine Forest High School’s Alexa Guadalupe Mendoza. Mendoza is this week’s Escambia and Santa Rosa County High School Student of the Week.

Mendoza won with 43.85 percent of the vote. Runner up Ayden Hinderer finished in second with 40.46 percent of the vote.

A new week of voting will start on Tuesday, Oct. 8 so make sure to vote!

Pine Forest High School – Alexa Guadalupe Mendoza

Alexa Guadalupe Mendoza, 11th grade: Alexa is excelling in AP Chemistry, consistently earning perfect scores on her assignments. Her outstanding performance in General Chemistry last year further demonstrates her mastery of the subject. In her lab group, Alexa naturally takes the lead during experiments, guiding her peers and ensuring everyone understands the material. She is always prepared for class and jumps right into assignments. Punctual and positive, Alexa approaches her studies with enthusiasm and a smile, inspiring those around her. As a peer tutor, she readily helps classmates who struggle with concepts, fostering a supportive learning environment. Overall, Alexa’s academic excellence, leadership skills, and willingness to assist others make her an exceptional candidate for Student of the Week. She truly embodies the qualities of a dedicated and inspiring student.

Success Academy – Monica Moore

Monica Moore, 10th grade: Monica’s teachers noted and reported that her commitment to school makes her a role model for other students. Her teachers noted that they are continuously impressed with her demeanor and her positive attitude towards school. She is a flexible learner and adapts extremely quickly and smoothly to change and any challenges that she may encounter. She approaches everything with a positive, versatile attitude that I believe allows her to thrive in the classroom. In addition to being conscientious about her studies, she has demonstrated what it means to be welcoming and friendly to new students. I watched her make a new student feel comfortable in class. She talked to him and offered tips on being successful! Monica is an ideal student. Her desire to learn and grow means a lot to her teachers; her teachers reported that they are very glad to have her in their classes.

Escambia High School – Wyatt Reed

Wyatt Reed, 12th grade: Wyatt Reed is a 12th grade student at Escambia High School. He is currently enrolled in Personal Finance, Algebra 2, English 4, Economics, and Criminal Justice. Wyatt is well liked by his peers and a positive role model to many. Jim Ellis, English Teacher, stated that “Wyatt is one of the most well mannered students I teach. He excels in his schoolwork while maintaining a busy schedule as a member of the football team.” Wyatt is a Varsity Football player and a member of the Weightlifting team. Wyatt has A’s and B’s in his current classes and is enrolled in the Criminal Justice Academy. Mark Lee, Criminal Justice Teacher, stated that “Wyatt has taken a leadership role in my class. He has stepped up and taken on the responsibility as President of the Criminal Justice Club”. Overall, Wyatt Reed is a hard worker, respectful, and leader at Escambia High School.

West Florida High School – Ayden Hinderer

Ayden Hinderer, 12th grade: Ayden Hinderer is a vital member of the award-winning WFHS Electrathon Car Team who helped design and build the car that won third place in a regional competition in Jacksonville this past spring. He continues to work in this role with the hope of adding a second car and building on that success. Recently, he and the rest of the team traveled to Indianapolis for the Indy Autonomous Car Challenge, a STEM event, where they represented WFHS well. In addition to these contributions, Ayden is an excellent student and a member of the Sports Medicine Academy who played soccer for WFHS for three years; additionally, he is a member of the Professional Cowboy Association and competes in bull riding events, some of which he has won, earning him the right to receive scholarship opportunities to receive instruction from seasoned professional coaches and riders. He has hit the 8-second mark in competition as well. He is a member of his church youth group and has volunteered his time in summers working on farms tending to horses, slinging hay, and driving heavy equipment all to the benefit of others. We are proud to nominate him as our Student of the Week.

Northview High School – Preston Ross

Preston Ross, 11th grade: Preston Ross is someone to notice. He has perfect attendance. Ms. Baggett, his senior English teacher considers him one of the most polite students she has ever taught, always answering with “Yes or no ma’am, etc.” Ms. Baggett said, “I have him 1st period, so his joy is welcomed to start a new morning off on a bright note!” Preston strives hard in his assignments and always has what is required; he often goes above that as well. He also encourages others around him on a regular basis as well.

Booker T. Washington High School – Johnathan Amentler

Johnathan Amentler, 12th grade: Johnathan Amentler is a senior at Booker T. Washington High School. He is in his fourth year in the Aviation Academy and is a leader in his class, receiving many certifications. He has challenged himself with AP courses throughout high school and is currently enrolled in AP Environmental Science, AP Physics, and AP Calculus and AP Macroeconomics. He is a member of Rho Kappa and the Wildcat Institute. He is always dependable and is a kind, helpful, well-rounded student. These qualities make him a true leader amongst his peers.

Tate High School – Sophia Della Ratta

Sophia Della Ratta, ninth grade: Despite breaking her back during the summer, this student has been on top of her education and extracurricular activities. She has been a great addition to the Showband of the South and Yearbook. While freshmen year can be overwhelming for many, she’s tackling it head on with three honors classes and one AP class. She has such a bright future ahead of her at Tate High School!
