Referee designator Gianluca Rocchi “not satisfied” with performances in latest round of Serie A

Appearing at FIGC event today at San Siro, Serie A referee designator Gianluca Rocchi addressed the controversial refereeing performances that plagued the latest round of fixtures.

Several games this past weekend featured a host a eyebrow-raising decisions, including Monza vs. Roma and Fiorentina vs. Milan.

“No—I’m not satisfied with the refereeing performances during this last round,” he told present media members.

“Training is fundamental, especially within a group. We have 46 referees: either I put a chip in each of them, or they all have their own minds and philosophies. The goal is to have a unified approach.”

He continued, “They are free to express their own views, but once a decision is made, it must be followed by everyone. Ideally, we would have 100% uniformity, but that’s practically impossible—they’re human beings.”

“Even with perfectly written rules, interpretation is always in the hands of those who make the final judgements.”
