Matt Boling is the new boys basketball coach at Bishop Chatard.

Boling, who played at Lawrence North and Taylor University, has nearly 20 years of coaching experience at the high school and college ranks, most recently as an assistant at Shortridge and previously at Scecina, Chatard, Guerin Catholic, Lawrence North and Olivet Nazarene.

“I’ve been coaching basketball, in some capacity, for nearly 20 years,” Boling said. “It is a game I love and a game that has meant so much to me throughout my life. When I stepped into the conversation about the head boys basketball coach at Bishop Chatard, and learned there was an opportunity to positively affect the experience of the boys basketball players in the program, I jumped at the chance. I am excited to continue using my love of the game to support the young men in our community on their journey towards finding what makes them successful.”

Braylon Mullins sets decision date. He’ll pick between Indiana, UConn, North Carolina.

The Chatard position opened last month when Ken Roseman stepped down after three seasons, compiling a 41-31 record. The Trojans were 9-13 last season.

Boling currently serves as the academic success coach for athletes at Marian University.

“Matt waited for the right opportunity to become a head coach, and his kids are at the right age now for it,” former Guerin Catholic coach Pete Smith said. “I’m excited for both Bishop Chatard and for the Bolings. He’s well prepared to lead a program.”

Boling and his wife, Jenn, have three sons: Quincy (seventh grade), Grady (fifth grade) and Sonny (fourth grade).

“We are excited for coach Boling and his family to join the Bishop Chatard community,” Chatard athletic director Kyle Reh said. “Coach Boling has been mentored by outstanding coaches throughout his playing and coaching career, and we look forward to him leading the young people in our boys basketball program, both on and off the court.”
